On August 5, 2014, in conjunction with the U.S. – Africa Leaders Summit, Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-Calif.), Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health and Human Rights, along with United States Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), Chairman of Senate Subcommittee on African Affairs, and Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Ranking Member of the Senate Subcommittee on African Affairs, co-hosted the “Growth and Opportunity in Africa Forum” in coordination with the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit.

Bernadette Paolo, President & CEO of The Africa Society moderated the third panel: Next Generation African Leaders: A Discussion with YALI fellow. The event consisted of three panels that featured leading figures in Africa’s economic affairs, diplomats, elected officials, and American business leaders as they discussed the future of U.S. – Africa economic relations, the importance of engaging the more than 600 million Africans, who are under 35 years old, and the upcoming discussion in Congress to renew the Africa Growth and Opportunity Agreement (AGOA).
